Kunming, considered the gateway to Tibet, is a cozy, clean city in Yunnan province, in the south of China. Located throughout the city are fascinating ruins consisting of tombs, monasteries, and temples. Everywhere you look, you will see magnificent greenery - in the trees, flowers, and plants. In this city, it is as though the springtime is every day. Because the trees and flowers are always in bloom, Kunming has been given several pet names such as "City of Flowers", "City of Eternal Spring", and "City of Spring." As you walk through the streets and parks of this city, you will no doubt agree with all the names.

Sitting high at 6,140 feet, the climate of Kunming is comfortable and mild. The average summer temperature is around 80 degrees and the coldest in the winter is around 35 degrees. The climate is in it of itself a good reason to visit Kunming to escape the nasty heat of some cities and the dripping humidity of others.

The food in Kunming is of succulent and sundry. Many traditional dishes are a specialty of local restaurants are Yunnan Ham, Long across the Bridge Rice Noodles, Whole Chicken Banquet, Steam Pot Chicken, and more.
