If like beauty, art, gardens, and hedonistic living, Suzhou is for you. Suzhou is a lovely city with winding canals, parks full of flowers, sweet fragrances, and the light chirping of birds from the thousands of cages outside of apartments. Located in Jiangsu province, a few hours northwest of Shanghai, Suzhou is a lovely place to visit all year round.

Nicknames
One name is the "Venice of the East" which, like Venice, Italy, has many interlocking canals that crisscross through the city and around its edges. Another name is "Land of Abundance," because Suzhou has an abundance of flora, fauna, natural resources and water. Finally, Suzhou is known as the "Capital of Silk," because Suzhou is famous for producing some of the finest silk around.

Anywhere you go in Suzhou, you can find fine crafts, artwork and culture, some of the best in China. Suzhou has its own unique quality of being like the Athens of China, yet, having modern attributes. It strives to find its place in modern China by contributing positively to the economy, yet it keeps Chinese arts and crafts alive. It is a wonderful place to visit and also to get into exporting Chinese arts and crafts.
