Chinese
consulate in Japan
Visiting a Chinese consulate or embassy is a lesson
in bureaucracy. The hours can be limited. Both Chinese
and the the holidays of the host nation are taken off,
so if you plan to visit the consulate or embassy, you
should know the holidays of both China and the host
country. This can be looked up on the consulate's Web
site. |
What
is an embassy?
Embassies house the ambassador. Ambassadors are the highest
appointed official representing the home country. An embassy
is a liaison between the host government and the home government.
They have meetings, do research, promote their country and
maintain/establish relations. They prepare state visits,
draft treaties and transmits messages between the two governments.
What
is a consulate?
A consulate is a liaison between the home country and the
citizens of that home country who are in the host nation.
They renew passports, register births abroad, report deaths
and marriages abroad, help citizens who are arrested, need
emergency assistance, or help citizens who are in trouble
because of instability in the host country. They also give
out visas to their home country to foreigners of the host
country or other countries. For example a Japanese citizen
can get a visa to China in America and the Chinese consulate.
Consul's also promote their home country's interests in
the host nation.
